This information is essential when attempting to determine market value. Our charge for this service ranges from $20 to $35 per item (see list below). We can also assist with determining its current market value, either retail pricing or wholesale pricing, for an additional $10 per item.

An Evaluation Fee will be not be charged for customers who sell the evaluated products to Sound Exchange. See below for details.

  • Turntables $20
  • Pairs of speakers $20
  • Cassette decks play only: $20 play and record $30
  • Compact Disc players $20
  • Equalizers $20
  • Amplifiers $30

Items not qualifying for the Evaluation service include the following, but are not limited to:

  • All-in-one record players (turntable, amp, speakers in one unit)

Since Sound Exchange is in the business of buying and selling the above equipment, we offer these services free of charge when (and only when) the customer sells their equipment to Sound Exchange.

Furthermore, Evaluation Fees will be charged when the customer provides his own equipment evaluation which proves to substantially in error, and the customer does not sell his equipment to Sound Exchange. This situation may occur when our evaluation uncovers a significant problem that the customer had not disclosed, but for which the customer will not accept a corresponding reduction in price.
